VACCINATION CERTIFICATES

New International Health Regulations (IHR 2005) from the United Nations World Health Organisation came into force in June 2007.

From 15 June 2007, the “International certificate of vaccination or revaccination against yellow fever” was replaced by the “International certificate of vaccination or prophylaxis”.

Previous vaccination certificates are still valid until they expire.

Vaccinations

Before going overseas, travel wise and ensure you have your vaccinations up to dateVaccinations are important to protect you from serious and sometimes fatal illnesses.

Before you travel overseas you should ensure that you have all of your regular vaccinations up to date as well as ensuring that you are prepared for some of the more exotic illnesses such as Yellow Fever.

All travelers to the developing world should check that they have had the following basic immunisations:

  • Cholera (a very serious illness in poor parts of the world especially Africa and India)
  • Polio
  • Tetanus, Diphtheria, Whooping Cough
  • Measles, Mumps and Rubella may be necessary for travelers born after 1966
  • Chickenpox vaccine may be warranted if traveler has not had the disease
  • Typhoid
  • Hepatitis A and B

If you are at all uncertain as to whether you are fully inoculated, make an important to see you Travelwise Doctor at least eight weeks before traveling.
